Many familiar trick-taking games are designed around four seats or two partnerships. Don't Get Plucked is designed around exactly three active players. Every decision affects both rivals, and nobody waits for a dummy hand or inherits a permanent teammate's result.
Different quotas create different pressure
The 7/6/4 quotas balance the dealer's privilege of selecting trump. The dealer has the hardest target, the next seat has a demanding six, and the third seat has four. That asymmetry changes which player is safe, which player can be plucked, and when it is worth spending a high card.
The fastest way to teach it
Teach one hand in layers. Start with follow-suit and book winning. Then reveal the personal quotas. Once the hand ends, explain that overtricks create points and future plucks while shortfalls create vulnerability.
